Young Africans Secure Commanding 3-0 Victory Against Medeama in CAF Champions League
Young Africans secured a crucial 3-0 victory over Medeama SC, significantly enhancing their prospects of progressing to the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.
Pacome Zouzoua, Kennedy Musonda, and Mudathir Yahya each contributed a goal at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday afternoon.
This marked Yanga's inaugural Champions League group stage win, accumulating a total of 5 points in four matches.
Yanga's goalkeeper, Djigui Diarra, played a pivotal role by saving a penalty in the 52nd minute, denying Jonathan Sowah's attempt and ensuring the team's safety.
Looking ahead, Miguel Gamondi's squad is set to host CR Belouizdad at the same venue in early February before embarking on a journey to face the 11-time Champions League titleholders, Al Ahly, in March next year.
In Group D's current standings, Al Ahly leads with 5 points, alongside Yanga, who occupies the second spot, also with 5 points, although the former has a game in hand.
CR Belouizdad secures the third position with 4 points, similar to Medeama, who also has 4 points. Notably, the Algerian side has one match in hand, adding intrigue to the group dynamics.
