Representing the Polish team Górnik Zabrze in the Spodek Super Cup, Podolski’s aggressive play quickly gained traction on social media.

The ex-Arsenal and Bayern Munich forward participated in the tournament, which featured top-tier teams from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and a Star Team lineup. Fans were treated to exciting matchups on artificial turf, with clubs like Baník Ostrava, Spartak Trnava, and Wisłoka Dębica showcasing their talent.
However, it was Podolski’s rough tackle on Wisłoka Dębica’s Kubą Siedleckim that stole the spotlight. To make matters worse, Siedleckim also took a ball to the face, though thankfully he escaped serious injury. Despite the dangerous play, Podolski received only a yellow card.
Podolski Apologizes for Reckless Play
Following the third-place match, Podolski apologized to Siedleckim and gifted him his jersey as a gesture of goodwill. Later, he addressed the incident on social media: “Emotions ran high on the pitch, but after the match, it’s all settled. Apologies for the tough foul. Wishing you the best this season.”
What Happened to Lukas Podolski?
Podolski retired from professional football in 2021 after playing for Turkey’s Antalyaspor, and shortly after, transitioned to futsal. Off the pitch, he has found success as a businessman. In 2017, he launched his ice cream brand, Ice Cream United, and a year later opened his first kebab restaurant, Mangal Döner, inspired by his time at Galatasaray.
Today, his kebab brand has expanded to over 30 locations across Germany, with a valuation exceeding €180 million, earning Podolski the nickname “The Kebab King.”
