Barcelona's Humiliation, "Hard to Accept" for Carlo Ancelotti
Real Madrid manager regretted the heavy defeat against Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final. "We are truly sorry," he said.
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti expressed his disappointment following the heavy 2-5 loss to Barcelona in the Super Cup final, attributing the defeat to poor defense across the team. He acknowledged the sadness of the fans and understood their frustration.
"We are very sad and disappointed. But that's football, and we leave with that sadness. Our sadness is the same as the fans'. We are truly sorry," Ancelotti said in the post-match press conference in Yeda.
According to the Italian coach, the team "wasn't good from the first to the last minute" and despite Szczesny's red card, he believed his players "couldn't find solutions." "I’m sad about the entire match," he added.
Ancelotti admitted that Barcelona "deserved to win" because they defended better than his team. "You need to defend well to win this game, and we defended poorly," he admitted.
When asked about the performances of Lucas Vázquez and Tchouaméni, he declined to single out anyone, but when pressed about Mbappé, he praised his performance.
"When I talk about the team, I’m talking about everyone. We didn’t defend well at the back, nor in the middle. The team wasn’t compact, and we need to defend better... They scored very easily, and we didn’t manage to work well collectively or individually," Ancelotti explained.
Despite the loss, Ancelotti urged his players to quickly forget the defeat, "look ahead, and regain the positive momentum" with which they arrived in Saudi Arabia.
