Barcelona Signs Record-Breaking Sponsorship Deal with Nike
Barcelona and multinational corporation Nike have reached a preliminary agreement that could result in the highest sports sponsorship deal ever for the club, as reported by EFE from sources within the negotiations.
The contract could be signed immediately, following an emergency meeting called by Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, this Friday. The club's board was convened via teleconference to discuss the terms, which were subsequently accepted.
Months ago, Laporta referred to the deal as "the most important in the world of football," though specific figures have not been disclosed yet. The final approval from Nike's management on the agreed terms is awaited to finalize the deal, which is "nearly completed" and could be signed as early as next week.
While the exact financial details remain undisclosed, with the distribution of the 'signing bonus' for the new contract, the deal could yield Barcelona about 120 million euros per season.
The agreement is set to increase starting from 2028, which marks the end of the current contract, with a significant rise continuing until 2038 when the new agreement expires.
During the negotiations, the distribution of 'ecommerce' revenue, currently controlled by Nike, was discussed. Barcelona negotiated the potential to take over electronic sales, which could significantly increase its revenue in this area.
