Historic Achievement: Bayer Leverkusen Set New Unbeaten Record
With a 2-2 draw against Stuttgart, thanks to a goal in the 97th minute by Robert Andrich, Bayer Leverkusen extended their unbeaten streak to 46 official matches, surpassing Rijeka and Dinamo Zagreb to achieve a 21st-century world record.
Andrich's late goal allowed Xabi Alonso's team to further extend their unbeaten run. Until that 97th minute, Leverkusen was tied at 45 with Rijeka and Dinamo Zagreb, but Andrich's goal marked a historic milestone for the German side.
Dinamo Zagreb set the previous record of 45 unbeaten matches between November 2014 and September 2015, while Rijeka achieved the same between April 2016 and May 2017. It took almost a decade for another team, Bayer Leverkusen, to surpass this remarkable feat.
When including friendly matches, Xabi Alonso's team would reach 50 matches unbeaten. Amidst their official streak, they faced Olympique Marseille, Venezia, West Ham, and Aachen without a defeat in friendlies. The last team to defeat Leverkusen was Bochum on May 27, 2023, exactly 11 months ago.
Another interesting fact is that the Bundesliga champions have scored late goals in seven different matches to maintain their streak, showing their determination never to lose.
