Klopp's Salary Keeps Him Away from US National Team
The salary policy between both USMNT teams (women's and men's) could prevent Klopp's arrival.
After a major failure in the 2024 Copa America and being eliminated in the Group Stage, the United States is now considering whether to keep their American coach, Gregg Berhalter. In this situation, the USMNT dreams of bringing in Jürgen Klopp to lead the team and prepare a great project for the 2026 World Cup hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada.
With this dream of bringing in the former Liverpool manager, the US team would be willing to go to great lengths to get him. However, the salary policy within the men's and women's teams would be a barrier to bringing the German coach, as the salary cap is $2 million.
Former goalkeeper Kasey Keller shared his opinion on the matter, stating that signing Klopp for that amount would be a win. "I think US Soccer would consider it a win if they could sign him for $2 million. If we have more money for one, we've said we'll spend an equal or approximately equal amount on the other (both teams)," commented the former goalkeeper.
Because of this, the situation to bring Klopp to the US team becomes complicated, as it could be considered unfair for one coach to earn more than the other. Nevertheless, the dream continues and could become a reality.
