Koeman’s Concerning Remarks on De Jong’s Injury
The Netherlands coach regretted the player's injury and noted that it's something significant.
During a golf tournament in Barcelona, Ronald Koeman, former Barcelona coach and current Netherlands coach, spoke to the media about Frenkie De Jong. He expressed regret about not having him for Euro 2024 and noted that De Jong has a "significant" injury.
"Of course, I talk to him because we know each other well. He's worried about his injury. Before the Euros, we thought he wouldn't make it to the first match, but we hoped he could play in the tournament, but it didn't happen. He has a significant injury, and we have to wait to see how things progress. I wish him luck and hope he recovers soon, but he's still not ready to play," the Dutch coach said.
Koeman also criticized Barcelona, stating that, in his opinion, Frenkie De Jong shouldn't have played several matches as he wasn't fully fit, and Barça rushed his recovery.
"I know much more than you do, and he played important matches when he wasn't at 100%. He didn't have the match rhythm and had few training minutes to play such crucial games against PSG. On the other hand, I understand because it was a very important moment for Barça, but in the end, it wasn't good for Frenkie's health," the coach mentioned.
