Messi Calls for Respect After Grabbing an Opponent by the Neck
After the defeat against Uruguay at home with a score of 0-2, the captain of the Argentine national team, Lionel Messi, expressed his disappointment and criticized the young players of La Celeste. He told them that even though intensity characterizes the Clásico del Río de la Plata, there has always been respect.
"Against Uruguay, it's always like this. I prefer not to say what I think, but these young players need to learn from the older ones because this Clásico has always been intense but with respect," said the Argentine star to the press immediately after the match.
Argentina had never lost an official match at La Bombonera and had not conceded a goal since Kylian Mbappé's goal in the final of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. That's why the level of their opponents and the inability to play in their style unsettled Lionel Scaloni's players.
"We struggled to play, they are intense, fast, and physical. We couldn't find a way to have the ball and maintain long possessions," commented Messi.
