Messi's Elegant Reaction to the Ballon d'Or Gala
Lionel Messi, the historic eight-time Ballon d'Or winner, spoke out following the recent gala in Paris. The Argentine star was not among the 30 nominees, as the award was given to Manchester City midfielder Rodri Hernández. However, this didn’t stop Messi from sharing his thoughts on social media.
Messi publicly congratulated the winners and highlighted his fellow Argentinians. Emiliano “Dibu” Martínez, named the world’s best goalkeeper for the second consecutive year, received a special message from Messi, who recognized his effort and achievements. Lautaro Martínez, who ranked seventh in the voting, along with Alejandro Garnacho and Lionel Scaloni, were also affectionately mentioned by Argentina’s captain.
Through his Instagram account, Messi displayed his trademark elegance, avoiding comments about the controversy surrounding Vinicius Jr.'s absence. Unlike other nominees, Vinicius chose not to attend the ceremony.
Messi’s attitude has been seen as a prime example of sportsmanship, as he has previously attended the gala several times knowing he would not win. This gesture of respect for his peers sends a powerful message to new generations about the importance of losing with dignity, just as much as celebrating the achievements of others.
