Real Madrid and Barcelona Compete for the 2030 World Cup Final
The Santiago Bernabéu in Madrid, Camp Nou in Barcelona, and Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca have been proposed as venues for the final and opening match of the 2030 World Cup. This joint bid by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal will be presented by FIFA at the Congress on December 11.
Commemorative matches in South America
To honor the tournament's centenary, some matches will take place in Uruguay, Argentina, and Paraguay. The proposed dates for these games are June 8 and 9, 2030, at four iconic stadiums: Monumental in Buenos Aires, Defensores del Chaco, the New National Stadium in Asunción, and Centenario in Montevideo.
Proposed infrastructure by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal
The FIFA document highlights Spain’s plan to use 11 stadiums, including the revamped Santiago Bernabéu, now a state-of-the-art venue, and the Camp Nou, undergoing a cutting-edge renovation. Additional upgrades are planned for venues in cities like A Coruña, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Málaga, Sevilla, and Zaragoza.
Morocco has proposed six stadiums, five of which will host the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, with the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca—currently under construction—aspiring to be the largest football stadium in the world. Portugal’s proposal includes three stadiums that have already proven their capabilities in major events like Euro 2004 and Champions League finals, such as the Estádio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and the Estádio do Dragão.
Technical evaluation and potential host cities
The joint bid by Spain, Morocco, and Portugal received a technical score of 4.2 out of 5, surpassing the 3.6 score of the Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay bid. Cities like Madrid, Rabat, Lisbon, Ben Guerir, and Porto are in contention to host the tournament draw, while Madrid and Casablanca could house the International Broadcast Center.
