Tonali Faces Extended Ban for Illegal Betting Activities
Sandro Tonali, a player for Newcastle United, was handed a two-month suspended ban on Thursday for breaking the FA's betting rules.
The Italian is currently serving a 10-month ban from playing since October 2023 for breaching betting rules during his time in Italy.
The FA accused Tonali of placing between 40 and 50 bets on football matches after joining Newcastle last summer from AC Milan, including four on Newcastle United's results. The Italian midfielder, who admitted to the charges, bet on his team's favor in four matches and played in three of them.
The total amount of money Tonali wagered exceeded $100,000. He will also have to pay a fine of $20,000 but will not have to serve this ban if he does not reoffend.
