However, Pirlo's expected appointment has been overshadowed by criticism over his commercial partnership with Fonbet, a Russian sports betting company.
Several Italian politicians have questioned the relationship because of the company's business ties to Sergey Lomakin, owner of UAE-based United FC, the club currently managed by Pirlo.

He also explained that his partnership with Fonbet is strictly a commercial agreement linked to his work in the United Arab Emirates.
Pirlo firmly rejected any political interpretation of that relationship, expressing disappointment that what he described as a purely sporting decision had been drawn into a public political dispute.

In his statement, Pirlo also thanked Paolo Maldini and Leonardo, members of the Italian Football Federation's leadership group, for their confidence and support throughout the process.
