Atlético Nacional Takes Revenge on Bahia and Tops Group in Copa Libertadores
Atlético Nacional secured a 1-0 victory over Bahia in the fifth round of Group F in the Copa Libertadores, in a match held in the Colombian city of Medellín, taking a crucial step toward qualifying for the tournament’s round of 16.
Controversial Goal and VAR Drama
The Colombian side, coached by Argentine Javier Gandolfi, scored the only goal of the match in the 46th minute thanks to forward Kevin Viveros, who capitalized on a rebound inside the box to beat goalkeeper Marcos Felipe. The play was reviewed by the VAR due to a possible handball by teammate Billy Arce in the build-up, but the goal was ultimately upheld.
It’s worth noting that earlier in the game, a goal by Viveros was disallowed for offside, which increased the tension until the final goal.

Tight Group Standings
With this win, the Verdolaga team reached nine points and moved to the top of the group. Bahia, coached by Brazilian legend Rogério Ceni, dropped to second place with seven points.
Meanwhile, fellow Brazilian club Internacional sits third with five points, and Uruguay’s Nacional is fourth with four points. These two teams will face off in Montevideo on Thursday in the penultimate group stage match.
In the final round, Gandolfi’s squad will visit Nacional on May 28 in Uruguay’s capital, while Internacional will host Bahia in Porto Alegre, setting up an open battle for qualification to the next stage.
