Boca Juniors will play in the 2023 Copa Libertadores final against Fluminense after defeating Palmeiras in a thrilling penalty shootout (2-4) at the Allianz Parque in São Paulo, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

Uruguayan forward Edinson Cavani put Boca ahead in the 23rd minute, but a long-range strike from his compatriot Joaquín Piquerez leveled the tie and took it to penalties.

Boca, which couldn't find a breakthrough in La Bombonera with a 0-0 draw, played the final half-hour with a numerical disadvantage after the expulsion of Marcos Rojo, who struggled against Endrick, the gem secured by Real Madrid, introduced at halftime.

Goalkeeper Sergio Romero kept the Argentine side alive with several remarkable saves and shone again with two stops in the penalty shootout.

The final will take place on November 4th at the Maracanã Stadium in Rio de Janeiro.

Boca's opponent in the final will be Fluminense, who advanced after a late comeback against Internacional (1-2), with Argentine striker Germán Cano playing a key role by providing the first goal and scoring the second for the carioca team.
