Cerro Porteño Does It Again Against Monagas and Advances in the Libertadores
Cerro Porteño secured another win over Monagas, this time at La Nueva Olla, with a solid 3-1 victory that sealed their spot in Phase 3 of the Copa Libertadores. The Paraguayan side got their goals from Diego León, Jorge Morel, and Wilder Viera, while Tomás Rodríguez scored the lone goal for the Venezuelan team.
Monagas Struck First, But Cerro Responded Quickly
The match started with an early shock as Tomás Rodríguez put Monagas ahead just 5 minutes in. However, Cerro Porteño, fueled by their home crowd, wasted no time in responding. At 19’, Diego León found the equalizer with a well-placed strike. Just before halftime, in the 45+4’, Jorge Morel finished off a deadly counterattack to give the hosts the lead.
Cerro Seals the Deal and Books Their Spot
In the second half, the Paraguayan side controlled the game and extended their lead with a goal from Wilder Viera at 51’. With the 3-1 aggregate, Cerro Porteño slowed the tempo, made four substitutions, and managed the match comfortably until the final whistle.

With this result, Cerro Porteño moves on to Phase 3 of the CONMEBOL Libertadores. If they fail to progress further, they still have a guaranteed spot in the Copa Sudamericana. Meanwhile, Monagas exits the tournament with no chance of continuing in international competitions.
