Vélez Stages Epic Comeback Against Peñarol in Copa Libertadores
Teenagers Álvaro Montoro (17) and Maher Carrizo (19) led Vélez Sarsfield to a thrilling 2-1 comeback victory over Peñarol in their Copa Libertadores Group H opener. Playing at the José Amalfitani Stadium, Guillermo Barros Schelotto's side turned the game around in the dying minutes after Leonardo Fernández put the Uruguayan side ahead in the 48th minute.
A Dramatic Finish
With time running out, Carrizo leveled the score in the 80th minute, reigniting hopes for the home crowd. Then, when it seemed like the match was heading for a draw, Montoro stepped up in the 95th minute, sealing a last-gasp winner and sending Vélez fans into a frenzy.

What’s Next in Group H?
The win puts Vélez atop the group alongside San Antonio, who edged Olimpia 3-2 in Cochabamba. Up next, Peñarol faces San Antonio on April 8, while Olimpia hosts Vélez on April 9 in a crucial battle for qualification.
