Vinícius Reacts to Racist Insults Against 18-Year-Old Brazilian Player
Real Madrid star Vinícius Júnior has once again spoken out against racism in football, this time standing in solidarity with Luighi Hanri, an 18-year-old Palmeiras player who was subjected to racial abuse by Cerro Porteño fans during a Copa Libertadores U-20 match.
Vinícius Supports Luighi and Calls Out CONMEBOL
Taking to Instagram, Vinícius shared a message of support for Luighi Hanri, who was called a "monkey" and targeted with racist gestures from a fan carrying a child.
"Congratulations for speaking out, brother. It's sad, but stay strong. We are in this fight together."
The Real Madrid forward, who has been vocal about racism in football, also criticized CONMEBOL for failing to take strong action against these incidents.
"Until when, CONMEBOL? You never do anything. NEVER!"
Vinícius recently helped secure Spain’s first legal conviction for racist abuse in football and continues to demand harsher sanctions worldwide.

Luighi Hanri: "This Incident Will Leave Scars"
Following Palmeiras' 3-0 win over Cerro Porteño, Luighi Hanri publicly denounced the racism he faced and called for stronger action:
"This incident will leave scars and must be treated for what it is: a crime. Until when? That’s the question I hope I won’t have to ask anymore. In the meantime, we keep fighting."
Despite Palmeiras players reporting the abuse to the referee, the match was not stopped. After the game, a visibly emotional Luighi addressed the press, showing frustration over the lack of action from CONMEBOL and the media:
"Are you seriously not going to ask me about that? You're just going to ask about the match?"
CONMEBOL's Response and Backlash
So far, CONMEBOL has only issued a brief statement on X, condemning racism but failing to outline specific sanctions:
"We strongly reject any act of racism or discrimination of any kind."
The organization added that it would evaluate disciplinary measures and consult with experts on additional actions.
However, Vinícius Júnior, along with many others, has called this response insufficient, urging for harsher sanctions to truly combat racism in South American football.
