Once the teams that will make up each of the four pots are defined, the draw for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores will be held well in advance of the tournament's start date. Specifically, it will take place on Monday, March 17, at 7:00 PM (ET) at the CONMEBOL headquarters in the city of Luque (Paraguay).

The last teams to join are Alianza Lima, who defeated Boca Juniors in the previous round; Bahía, which returns to the Copa Libertadores after 30 years; Cerro Porteño, Paraguay's 28-time champion; and Barcelona SC, which surprised by eliminating Corinthians. They will join Carabobo, Atlético Bucaramanga, Central Córdoba, and San Antonio in pot four.

Key dates for the 2025 Copa Libertadores

Botafogo, the reigning Copa Libertadores champion, is placed in the first pot alongside River Plate, Palmeiras, Flamengo, Peñarol, Nacional, São Paulo, and Racing Club, which also earned this privilege as the 2025 Copa Sudamericana champion. Rivals to avoid in pot two are Colo-Colo, Independiente del Valle, and Estudiantes. From pot three, Atlético Nacional or Vélez.

As mentioned, the 2025 Copa Libertadores group stage will begin on April 1 and finish on May 29. Afterward, there will be a break for the FIFA Club World Cup, and the round of 16 will be played between August 12 and 21. The quarterfinals will take place from September 16 to 25; the semifinals from October 21 to 29; and the grand final on November 29.
