LIVE! Estudiantes de La Plata vs. Corinthians in the Copa Libertadores on beIN SPORTS

  • The 2026 Copa Libertadores continues with its quarterfinal stage and brings us a matchup between two historic clubs from the continent. Estudiantes de La Plata hosts Corinthians in Argentina for the opening chapter of a tie that will send one of these teams into the semifinals.

El Pincha will look to take advantage of its home support and build a lead before traveling to São Paulo, while Timão arrives in La Plata with the mission of surviving away from home and taking the deciding leg of the series back to Brazil.

Estudiantes Goes All-In on the Copa Libertadores Again

The team coached by Alexander Medina has found a very different version of itself in the Copa Libertadores compared to what it has shown in Argentine soccer.

Estudiantes booked its place in the quarterfinals after eliminating Universidad Católica. Following a very tight opening battle in La Plata, El Pincha responded in Santiago with a commanding 3-0 victory, powered by a brace from Guido Carrillo and another goal from Javier Correa.

Things have been much more difficult in the Torneo Clausura, where the Argentine side is coming off a 1-0 defeat against Vélez Sarsfield and has struggled to find consistency.

But talking about Estudiantes in the Copa Libertadores always means talking about history.

El Pincha has won South America’s most important club competition four times and is once again among the continent’s final eight, dreaming of another trip to the semifinals.

Corinthians Finds Refuge in the Copa Libertadores

The situation for Corinthians is not much different.

The team coached by Fernando Diniz is going through a difficult spell in the Brasileirão, but it has managed to stay alive in continental competition.

Timão finished top of its group before eliminating Rosario Central in an extremely tight series. After a scoreless draw in Argentina, Corinthians earned a 1-0 victory at the Neo Química Arena thanks to a goal from Breno Bidon.

That qualification came at a price.

Raniele was sent off during that match and will be suspended for the trip to La Plata. In addition, Corinthians will also be without Yuri Alberto, another significant absence for the Brazilian attack.

One of the players to watch will be Memphis Depay. Ahead of the match, Alexander Medina acknowledged that one of Estudiantes’ biggest concerns will be the Brazilian side’s threat from set pieces, particularly the deliveries of Memphis and Rodrigo Garro.

A Recent History That Ended in Penalties

Estudiantes and Corinthians know exactly what it means to face each other in a continental knockout tie.

The two clubs met in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Copa Sudamericana.

Corinthians won the first leg 1-0 in Brazil thanks to a goal from Gil, but Estudiantes responded in La Plata with the exact same result after Mauro Méndez found the back of the net.

The series had to be decided from the penalty spot.

Timão eventually prevailed 3-2 in the shootout to eliminate the Argentine side after a dramatic tie.

Three years later, they meet again in the quarterfinals, but this time the prize is even greater: a place among the final four of the Copa Libertadores.
