Guaraní Advances with Authority to The Sudamericana Group Stage!
Paraguayan side Guaraní secured their spot in the Copa Sudamericana group stage on Thursday after defeating compatriot 2 de Mayo 2-0 in the preliminary round.

Under the guidance of Francisco Arce, the Aborigen became the second Paraguayan team to advance in the continental tournament, thanks to goals from William Mendieta (38') and Richard Torales (93').
In the first half, played at Arsenio Erico Stadium in Asunción, debutant 2 de Mayo tried to impose its attacking style, while Guaraní controlled possession, especially in midfield, but struggled to create real danger.
The aurinegro squad made the most of its accuracy and, on their first clear chance, opened the scoring in the 38th minute. Mendieta received a pass from midfield by Enzo Manzúr, broke free from his marker, and finished with great precision.
In the second half, 2 de Mayo came out determined to equalize, but goalkeeper Carlos Servín denied a powerful shot from Mendieta early on. Guaraní had multiple opportunities to extend their lead on counterattacks, but Fernando Fernández hit the right post after a pass from Alexis Cantero, and Diego Fernández sent his shot wide.
In the final stretch, 2 de Mayo pushed all their players forward in search of an equalizer, but to no avail. Finally, in the 93rd minute, Torales sealed the win with a precise shot from outside the box, taking advantage of Servín leaving the goal unprotected.
In another matchup between Paraguayan teams, Sportivo Luqueño advanced to the group stage on Tuesday after defeating Sportivo Ameliano 2-0.
