Palestino secured their place in the Group Stage of the Copa Conmebol Sudamericana after defeating Universidad Católica in an epic penalty shootout. The hero of the night was goalkeeper Sebastián Pérez, who applied the "law of the ex" by saving the last penalty and eliminating his former team.

The first half was marked by parity, but Palestino’s determination gave them the lead with a stunning goal from Bryan Carrasco in the 11th minute. In the second half, the red card for Julián Fernández in the 71st minute changed the course of the game for the visitors, who held on until the 88th minute when Fernando Zampedri equalized the score and forced penalties.

In a nearly perfect shootout, Palestino won 5-4 and secured their spot in the next phase of the continental tournament.
