Paraguay's President Expects the Sudamericana Final to Be "A Celebration"
President Santiago Peña of Paraguay expressed his confidence that the Copa Sudamericana final between Argentina's Racing and Brazil's Cruzeiro, hosted this Saturday in the country's capital, will be celebrated as a "festival."
"It's really going to be a celebration, and we are doing everything we can to ensure the reception is suitable, security is adequate, and it really will be a festival," Peña told reporters during his visit to the department of Concepción in the north of the country.
The president highlighted the significance of the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) choosing Asunción as the venue for the match, after the city hosted the final between Independiente del Valle and Colón in 2019.
Peña noted that four giant screens have been installed at various points in the city for those who cannot enter the General Pablo Rojas Stadium, 'La Nueva Olla,' located in the Barrio Obrero neighborhood, which has a capacity of 45,000 people.
The president encouraged everyone to "go out and enjoy this beautiful sports festival."
The Paraguayan capital is preparing to welcome around 60,000 visitors, prompting local authorities to deploy a security operation by land and air that includes about 7,000 police officers and a group of military support.
According to the National Directorate of Migration, up to a certain hour, 40,224 tourists had entered the country, including 32,995 Argentinians, 6,624 Brazilians, and 605 from other nationalities.
