Boca Juniors Thrash Recoleta and Advance to Copa Sudamericana Quarterfinals
Boca Juniors gave Recoleta no chance, winning 4-0 in Paraguay and wrapping up the series with a commanding 7-1 aggregate victory to reach the Copa Sudamericana quarterfinals.
The Paraguayan side, which has played just three seasons in its country's top flight during its 95-year history, managed to hold out for the opening half hour. However, Santiago Ascacíbar broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, taking advantage of a rebound inside the box to score with a header.

Boca Juniors Puts the Tie to Bed
The lead grew before halftime. In the 43rd minute, Sebastián Villa pounced on a loose ball following a move he had started himself and finished with his left foot to make it 2-0. It was his first goal for Boca Juniors in three years.
With his team facing elimination, Recoleta coach Jorge González looked for a response in the second half by introducing Héctor López and Paul Charpentier. However, the attacking approach left more space at the back, and Boca Juniors took full advantage.

In the 55th minute, Miguel Merentiel led a counterattack, beat a defender and found himself one-on-one with goalkeeper Nelson Ferreira, whom he beat with a delicate chipped finish to score the third goal of the night.
Enner Valencia Makes His Debut and Alan Velasco Completes the Rout
With qualification virtually secured, Rodolfo "Vasco" Arruabarrena made several changes and handed Enner Valencia his debut. The Ecuadorian striker still appeared short of match fitness during his first minutes as a Boca Juniors player.
Alan Velasco, however, made the most of his opportunity. In the 77th minute, the forward produced an impressive individual move before scoring the fourth and final goal.
After a 3-1 victory at La Bombonera and a dominant performance in Paraguay, Boca Juniors completed the Round of 16 with a commanding 7-1 aggregate win. Their quarterfinal opponent will be either Sao Paulo or Bolívar.
