The Uruguayan club changed its name to Montevideo City Torque as part of the City Group's global strategy. The bond between Torque and City Group began in 2017, when both parties signed an original 10-year contract, with a project for a Sports Public Limited Company (SAD) until 2026.



The renewal until 2038

At the beginning of 2025, Montevideo City Torque and the City Group agreed to extend their commercial and sports partnership until 2038. The continuity occurred after the investors evaluated leaving Uruguay or continuing the project at another AUF club in 2024. Finally, the bet remained firm in Montevideo. The goal of City Group is to turn Torque into a top-tier club in Uruguayan football, with infrastructure and youth development. As well as achieving great feats on the continental stage.



Academia Montevideo Torque Ciudad

The group announced the construction of a new high-level complex for the youth divisions and the first team. The creation of the Academy Montevideo Torque City was also announced, inspired by the complexes of New York City FC and Manchester City. The new center will feature a gym, offices, and training spaces, and is projected to be one of the most advanced complexes in South America. Thus, the relationship between Montevideo City Torque and Manchester City is not just a detail, it is the backbone of a project that aims to leave a mark on Uruguayan and South American football.
