Anfield provides the setting for a contest filled with history, rivalry, and world-class talent.
The Reds enter the match on a four-game winning streak across all competitions, a run that has restored confidence in Andoni Iraola's squad.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to bounce back after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham in the Premier League.
However, beyond recent results, one storyline makes this encounter particularly special: Xabi Alonso's return to Anfield.
The Spanish manager, who enjoyed a memorable spell as a Liverpool player, will now attempt to eliminate his former club from the opposition dugout.
The Chelsea manager faces a difficult challenge without two important attacking options.
Cole Palmer is suspended following his red card against Tottenham, while João Pedro is also unavailable due to a thigh injury.
However, Xabi Alonso could have additional attacking options at his disposal.
Estêvão and Danny Welbeck are available for selection, while Emmanuel Emegha could make his debut after progressing through his recovery.
On the other side, Andoni Iraola has confirmed that he will rotate his Liverpool squad due to the demanding schedule.
Florian Wirtz could be available after suffering an ankle problem, although Dominik Szoboszlai's participation remains uncertain.
Both managers must strike the right balance between managing their players' fitness and securing victory in a knockout encounter.
The recent history of the EFL Cup features several memorable chapters involving these two clubs.
Liverpool and Chelsea met in the 2022 and 2024 finals, with the Reds lifting the trophy on both occasions.
