FIFA Will Debut a Patch for Newcomers at the World Cup
FIFA will launch the "Debut Patch" at the 2026 World Cup for those playing their first match, featuring new badges and an institutional patch on the jerseys.
A new addition to the 2026 World Cup
FIFA has confirmed that at the next World Cup, a special badge will be introduced for players making their first appearance in the tournament: the “Debut Patch.” This patch will be worn only during that initial match and will then be removed. The U.S. company Fanatics will be responsible for transforming these patches into collectible cards, which will go on sale starting in 2031, when the company takes over the distribution of the official World Cup albums, replacing Panini, according to the specialist website Footy Headlines
The changes ahead for the jerseys
This initiative is part of an overhaul of the badges that will appear on the jerseys. Each national team will be able to showcase its historical journey in the competition through various designs. Under this scheme, teams that have already won the World Cup will have the privilege of wearing a gold patch, while the remaining participants will wear the standard tournament logo.
In addition, a new patch will be added to the left sleeve, featuring an institutional or social message that has not yet been determined. The aim is for the jerseys to not only represent each country on the sporting level, but also to convey collective values and messages, reinforcing the identity of the players and the symbolic impact of the World Cup

Distinction and differentiation
In short, FIFA aims to ensure that every detail of the kit carries additional meaning: from distinguishing those making their debut at the world's biggest event to highlighting the history of the champions and providing a platform for global messages
