Possible England Lineup vs Ghana for the Second Matchday of Group L | FIFA World Cup 2026
England faces a demanding challenge against Ghana as they look to strengthen their status as one of the tournament favorites.
The English side boasts a squad filled with talent in every area of the pitch and could opt for a balanced formation that combines defensive solidity, midfield control, and attacking pace.
Leading the Defense
Between the posts, Jordan Pickford is expected to be the starting goalkeeper.
The defensive line would feature Nico O'Reilly at left-back, providing energy and forward runs. In central defense, John Stones and Ezri Konsa would form a partnership that combines experience, leadership, and physical strength. On the right flank, Reece James would offer attacking depth and support going forward.
England’s Midfield
In midfield, England could opt for a balanced combination with Declan Rice operating as the holding midfielder on the left side, while Elliot Anderson would occupy the right side to complement ball circulation and physical work.
Further forward, Jude Bellingham would be tasked with linking midfield and attack. The English star would have the freedom to move between the lines and create scoring opportunities thanks to his vision and ability to arrive in the opposition penalty area.
Out wide, England would have two players capable of making the difference at any moment. Bukayo Saka would occupy the right wing, although Eberechi Eze emerges as an important alternative to inject fresh energy into the attack. On the left side, Marcus Rashford would provide pace and directness, with Anthony Gordon available as an option to change the rhythm of the game from the bench.
