Romário Supports Ronaldo With His Departure From the Training Camp

Romário in defense of Cristiano Ronaldo

The former Brazilian forward Romário, world champion in 1994, came to Cristiano Ronaldo's defense and stated that he too would have left the Portuguese national team's camp if coach Jorge Jesus had not fulfilled the agreement.

"I would have done the same. I would have just told him to fuck off first, but I would have left for sure. I think that was Cristiano's mistake: leaving without telling the guy to go to hell," said the Brazilian star in an interview with 'Charla Podcast'.

Romário's statement

The former FC Barcelona and Valencia player described Cristiano as "a very objective guy," although he also praised Jorge Jesus, an "incredible" coach who helped Flamengo "become greater."

However, he believes that the Portuguese coach was dishonest if it is true that he did not keep his word with the former Real Madrid forward.

"Brother, when someone doesn't keep their word, the agreement isn't worth much. A handshake is worth more than anything. If someone doesn't fulfill their word, they are an dishonest person. If what Ronaldo said happened, Ronaldo is right," he opined.

The support for Cristiano's decision

Romário justified CR7's drastic decision to leave the camp on September 30 by saying he had "felt embarrassed once" after warming up on the sidelines and not being called to play during the Nations League match against Norway.

"Why go through the embarrassment a second time? Better to leave. Some of the things they had agreed he would say at the press conference, he didn't say a damn thing," he stated.

Consequently, he suspects that Cristiano Ronaldo "felt he was being disrespected, that he had no relevance, and left."

The Al-Nassr forward unexpectedly left the Portuguese national team's camp in the middle of the Nations League, after a press conference by Jorge Jesus in which he addressed his substitution against Norway in Oslo (1-2).

The captain warmed up for half an hour during that match, but did not play a single minute, causing a sports earthquake in his team. EFE
