Boca Juniors: Riquelme Looks to Sign Marco Verratti
The president of Boca Juniors, Juan Román Riquelme, has reportedly begun negotiations to bring Italian midfielder Marco Verratti to Argentina for the 2026 Copa Libertadores push.
💥 BOCA JUNIORS needs an ITALIAN for the 2026 LIBERTADORES?
The answer is yes. Boca needs a “tano” in its squad.
BOCA BOCA BOCAAA! The Ribera club is living a strong sporting moment. La Bombonera shook on Sunday with their 2–0 win over Talleres, securing a spot in the quarterfinals of the Torneo Clausura. But while the players celebrate, the board is already working ahead: early 2026 will mark Boca’s return to the Copa Libertadores, and the institution is preparing with high ambitions.
Verratti, the Reinforcement for a Libertadores Dream
Juan Román Riquelme, the club president, knows that fulfilling the dream of a seventh Libertadores requires adding elite talent. And in recent days, he made a major move: on Monday it was revealed that negotiations have already begun for Marco Verratti, former midfielder for the Italian national team, with a major European career and former teammate of Edinson Cavani, Leandro Paredes and Ander Herrera at PSG.
Verratti left Paris in 2023 for Qatar, where he played for Al Arabi and later for Al Duhail. Italian media made it clear: “Riquelme has already opened negotiations for Verratti,” reported Corriere dello Sport, adding that the player wants to leave Qatar despite having a contract until mid-2026.
At 33, the midfielder from Pescara came close to returning to Serie A, with interest from Inter, Juventus and Milan. However, his ties with ex-teammates — Cavani, Herrera and Paredes — may facilitate his possible move to Argentine football. The Copa Libertadores is the big draw, and Riquelme has already activated his well-known strategy — the same one used to assemble the “Euro Boca” concept with prior signings.
Although Verratti is under contract at Al Duhail until June 2026, Boca’s intent is to secure an early departure and bring him in during the next transfer window.
Dybala in the Rumor Mill
🔵🟡 But he’s not the only name exciting the fans.
Rumors have emerged of Paulo Dybala considering a move to Boca for the upcoming Copa Libertadores. His contract situation at Roma, his public hints, and the desire to compete in continental football have fueled speculation. For now, it remains firmly in rumor territory, but the name is already circulating strongly in the Boca universe.
With Verratti as a concrete objective, Dybala as a tantalizing dream, and the Copa Libertadores on the horizon…
