Why Timothée Chalamet Will Be Tuned Into beIN SPORTS This Weekend
St. Etienne play a season-defining game this weekend, and their biggest fan will be watching on.
A Hollywood star with true passion
Timothee Chalamet may not be the biggest fan of ballet and opera, a controversial opinion that might have cost him an Oscar for his role in Marty Supreme, however he is a huge supporter of one particular French football team. And it definitely isn't A Complete Unknown.
The actor is arguably St. Etienne's most famous fan. But we are not talking about an attention-seeking celebrity supporter here, the French-American is genuinely in love with the ten-times Ligue 1 winners.
Timothee Chalamet's father is French, and he spent childhood summers with his paternal grandparents not far from St. Etienne. “I used to chase the team [by bike]," revealed the Dune star to Nardwuar the Human Serviette. He was recently seen signing the jersey of Lyon, St. Etienne's rivals, writing "down with Lyon" next to his name, a true supporter.
A crucial match for promotion hopes
While the actor's recent trajectory has been stellar, the same cannot be said for his team which has been up and down. St. Etienne were relegated from Ligue 1 in the 2021-22 season but eventually returned, only to slip back to Ligue 2 last season.
St. Etienne are close to a swift comeback and a pivotal match in that battle is coming up on Saturday, live on beIN SPORTS. Chalamet's side are currently in second place in the standings, four points behind Troyes, in a division where the top two win automatic promotion.
St. Etienne have the chance to close that gap with a home game against the league leaders. Three points would be a big step to facing Lyon and PSG once again next season, with just two games to go after that.
Eyes on the final stretch
If it comes down to the final match of the season, don't be surprised to find an American superstar and a Kardashian in the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard, as Timothee Chalamet feels more nerves than waiting for the opening of a best actor envelope at the Oscars.
