Alexis Mac Allister reacts to Real Madrid transfer rumors and the idea of leaving Liverpool
Alexis Mac Allister, World Cup winner with Argentina and a key figure at Liverpool, didn’t beat around the bush when asked about the supposed interest from Real Madrid. In the middle of an impressive season with the Reds, the 26-year-old midfielder made it clear that his focus is entirely on the present and on his current club, shutting down any talk—for now—of switching teams.
“The present is what matters”
“I read the rumors and I hear the news, but the present is what matters. Even if a club wants me, if I have a bad game on the weekend, they’ll lose interest,” Mac Allister told TyC Sports. Since joining in 2023, the Argentine has become a key player for Liverpool, and his performances have caught the eye of clubs like Real Madrid, who are going through a rebuild after crashing out of the Champions League and possibly missing out on LaLiga.
It’s not the first time Mac Allister’s name has been linked with the Spanish giants, but he’s staying grounded. “I’m happy at Liverpool and I don’t feel the need to go anywhere. I’ve got a lot of respect for the club and don’t think it’s right to be talking about other teams,” he said, doubling down on his commitment to the Premier League side and making it clear he’s not looking for a move anytime soon.
A club that feels like home
Even with Real Madrid reportedly eyeing other Argentines like Enzo Fernández and Cristian Romero, Mac Allister spoke about the strong connection he feels with Liverpool: “The club feels like a family. Everything’s summed up in that phrase: 'You’ll never walk alone.'” His contract runs until 2028, and over time, he’s become a real presence in the dressing room.
With a market value around €90 million and still in the thick of the Premier League title race, Mac Allister remains focused on his performances. As for Real Madrid, they’ll have to decide whether to keep pushing for him or look elsewhere in their big rebuild plans.
