Is Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez Heading to Manchester United? Here's What We Know
Argentinian goalkeeper Emiliano "Dibu" Martínez, one of Aston Villa’s standout players and a World Cup winner with Argentina, seems to be getting closer to leaving the Birmingham club. After an emotional farewell to fans at Villa Park, rumors about his departure have picked up steam. According to The Sun, Daily Mail, and TyC Sports, Manchester United are seriously considering a move for him—especially if they manage to offload André Onana to a club in Saudi Arabia.
Onana on the Way Out, Dibu in the Spotlight
After a rough season where the Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League and lost the Europa League final to Tottenham, the club is looking to hit reset under new Portuguese coach Rúben Amorim. Apparently, he’s already given the green light for Martínez to become the new No. 1 at Old Trafford, replacing Onana, whose performances raised a lot of eyebrows.
There’s no official offer yet, but word is Aston Villa would ask for somewhere between $22 and $33 million for their star keeper. Dibu is still under contract and earns a hefty salary, so getting the deal done won’t be simple. Still, the club may be willing to let him go to stay within the Premier League’s financial sustainability rules.
Focused on Argentina, but Not Closing Any Doors
For now, Martínez is focused on Argentina’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia. “My future? I don’t know, I’m just here to play with the national team,” said the keeper. But he didn’t rule anything out: “The transfer window is just getting started. There’s still a long way to go.”
At 32, Dibu Martínez has shown he can handle the biggest stages—both with the national team and in the Premier League. For Manchester United, signing him would be more than just a goalkeeping upgrade; it would send a message: they want to seriously compete again, both in England and in Europe.
