Manchester City Splashes Big on the "Egyptian Prince"
Following their Champions League defeat to PSG, Manchester City announced the signing of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt.
Manchester City announced on Thursday the signing of forward Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt for approximately $72.9 million, plus add-ons.
Marmoush becomes City’s third winter transfer after Abdukodir Khusanov, who arrived from Lens for $41.6 million, and Vitor Reis, signed from Palmeiras for $35.4 million.
The Egyptian striker has signed a four-and-a-half-year contract, keeping him at the club until June 2029, and will join Pep Guardiola's squad immediately. While he won't be eligible for the final Champions League group stage match, Marmoush can participate in domestic competitions.
Last season, Marmoush scored 17 goals in 41 matches across all competitions. This season, he's already delivered an impressive 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 appearances. On the international stage, he has earned 35 caps for Egypt, scoring six goals.
“This is a day I will never forget. Signing for Manchester City, one of the best clubs in the world, is an incredible feeling,” said Marmoush.
“We are so happy to be in Manchester. With Pep, his coaching staff, the facilities, and the players, we have everything we need to improve. It’s one of the reasons I wanted to come here. Of course, I also want to win titles. City has been the most successful club in England for a long time, and I want to be part of this winning culture.”
Marmoush fills the gap left by Julián Álvarez, who departed for Atlético Madrid last summer.
