Maresca Puts an End to Chelsea’s Goalkeeping Dilemma
Chelsea FC manager Enzo Maresca has made it official: Filip Jorgensen is now the team's first-choice goalkeeper, pushing Spaniard Robert Sánchez to the bench.
Sánchez had been Chelsea’s starter in the Premier League until he was dropped for the match against West Ham following costly errors against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Manchester City. With Jorgensen already handling cup games and Conference League fixtures, he was given the nod against the 'Hammers' and has now cemented his place.
Maresca Explains His Decision
"Starting Filip was about giving Robert time to recover mentally and physically. The idea isn't to keep changing goalkeepers every game," Maresca stated in a press conference.
"In our last Premier League match against West Ham, Filip played; in the FA Cup, it was Robert, but our No.1 right now is Filip," the Italian coach confirmed ahead of Chelsea’s upcoming clash against Brighton & Hove Albion—ironically, Sánchez’s former club.
If this trend continues, Sánchez may be left with only Conference League appearances, as Chelsea has already been eliminated from both the League Cup and the FA Cup.
