Ruud Van Nistelrooy Joins Leicester City as Head Coach
Ruud Van Nistelrooy has been officially announced as the new head coach of Leicester City.
"I am proud and excited. Everyone I’ve spoken to about Leicester City is enthusiastic," Van Nistelrooy stated in a club announcement. He highlighted the quality of the staff, the passion of the fans, and the club's recent history as key motivations for taking the role.
Club chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha expressed confidence in Van Nistelrooy, emphasizing that his "experience, knowledge, and winning mentality" will bring significant value to the team. Srivaddhanaprabha added, "We are thrilled about the impact he can have as we begin this new chapter together."
Van Nistelrooy’s Coaching Journey
At 48 years old, Van Nistelrooy began his managerial career with PSV Eindhoven, where he won both the KNVB Cup and the Dutch Super Cup. Over the summer, he joined Manchester United as an assistant to Erik Ten Hag.
After Ten Hag’s dismissal, Van Nistelrooy stepped in as interim coach, achieving a strong record of three wins and one draw in four matches. Although he expressed interest in remaining as an assistant to Rúben Amorim at United, he ultimately opted to leave.
His next chapter begins at Leicester City, following the sacking of Steve Cooper last weekend.
Despite keeping the Foxes above the relegation zone after just 12 games, Steve Cooper was dismissed as the board sought a new direction. With Van Nistelrooy’s appointment, Leicester City hopes to reignite their form and push for a stronger showing in the Premier League.
