The Disgusting Record Manchester United Could Set — A Clear Sign Their Glory Days Are Over
The 2024–25 season has turned into a nightmare for Manchester United, who are enduring one of the darkest chapters in their recent history. After an emotional comeback in Europe against Lyon, where they secured a thrilling 5–4 win in the Europa League, Rúben Amorim’s side once again stumbled in the Premier League, falling 1–0 to Wolves in a match that raised more questions than answers.
United struggled to create chances and managed only two shots on target during the entire match. The defeat marked their fourth consecutive league match without a win — and more worryingly, their 15th loss of the campaign, the most ever recorded by the club in a Premier League season.
A Historic Collapse at Old Trafford
With only five matches remaining, the situation is dire: Manchester United sit 14th in the table with just 38 points. Even if they win all of their remaining games, they would only finish with 53 points — which would set a new low in the club’s Premier League history.
To put it in perspective, their previous worst points tally came in the 2021–22 season, when they ended with 58 points. As for league position, their lowest-ever finish was just last season when they ended in eighth place under Erik ten Hag. Now, the team faces the possibility of finishing even lower, a steep fall from the dominance they enjoyed during the Sir Alex Ferguson era.
Of the ten league victories United have managed this season, only six have come under Amorim, who arrived with high hopes but has struggled to turn things around amid squad weaknesses and deep-rooted issues within the club.
Could Europe Be the Lifeline?
Despite the domestic disaster, there is still a glimmer of hope. If Manchester United can win the Europa League, they will secure a spot in the 2025–26 Champions League, regardless of where they finish in the league. It would be a vital lifeline in what has otherwise been a disastrous season.
Still, the damage is already done. The possibility of a historic low in the Premier League confirms that the glory days are well and truly over. Even with a European trophy, Manchester United will need a complete rebuild if they hope to compete among the elite once again.
