Arsenal Is About to Secure Its First Premier Title in Over 20 Years
After 22 years of waiting, Arteta is on the verge of the Premier League: Havertz's goal against Burnley leaves them one step away from the historic title.
A drought of more than two decades
Arsenal is one step away from ending a drought that has lasted for more than two decades. Mikel Arteta's team, which has led with authority for much of the season, overcame its penultimate hurdle with a narrow but vital win against already-relegated Burnley, thanks to Kai Havertz's goal in the 36th minute. That goal, which came from a corner taken by Bukayo Saka, was the 18th goal scored by the London team from a corner this Premier League season, a statistic that reflects the effectiveness of their tactical work on set pieces
The victory against Burnley
The 1-0 victory, identical to the score obtained the previous day against West Ham, left Arsenal on the verge of a title that has eluded them since the Arsène Wenger era. With a five-point lead over Manchester City and just one matchday to go, the 'Gunners' could be crowned champions tomorrow if Pep Guardiola's team fails to win in their tough away game against Andoni Iraola's Bournemouth.
The match against Burnley was not easy. After Havertz's goal, Arsenal had chances to extend the lead: Saka came close to the second with a curling shot that was just deflected, and Odegaard forced a miraculous save from Lesley Ugochukwu. However, the opponent, freed from pressure due to their confirmed relegation, picked up in the second half and caused some concern. Jaidon Anthony tried from a distance and Eze smashed a shot into the crossbar, keeping the tension high until the final whistle

22 years that may come to an end
The uncertainty of the score gave way to euphoria at the Emirates. The fans celebrated a win that, despite being a close one, represents a practically definitive step towards winning the Premier League. After 22 years of waiting, there is only one game left against Crystal Palace. Arsenal is one result away from lifting the trophy again and writing a historic chapter in English soccer.
