Chelsea Negotiate for World Cup Winner Emiliano Martínez After Goalkeeper Is Offered To Club

Chelsea could make one of the most unexpected moves of the final days of the transfer window. The London club are considering signing Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa after the Argentine goalkeeper was offered to the club.

The situation reportedly accelerated following Robert Sánchez's performance against Fulham, when the Spanish goalkeeper made an error that proved costly in Josh King's goal.

Until now, Chelsea had maintained confidence in Sánchez and Mike Penders as their two senior goalkeeping options. However, the performance at Craven Cottage appears to have changed the situation.

Emiliano Martínez, 33, is currently training away from the main Aston Villa squad following the arrival of Zion Suzuki, who is expected to become Unai Emery's new first-choice goalkeeper.

The Argentine is reportedly valued at around £8 million, a figure that could make the move attractive to Chelsea if the club decide to strengthen the position before the transfer window closes.

Martínez was already close to leaving Villa Park earlier this summer. Juventus came close to reaching an agreement for the former Arsenal goalkeeper, but the deal eventually collapsed, leaving the World Cup winner facing an uncertain future.

It is not the first time Martínez has pushed for a move away from Aston Villa. A year ago, he attempted to leave in the hope of joining Manchester United, although that transfer never materialized.

Now, Chelsea have emerged as an unexpected potential destination.

Head coach Xabi Alonso has yet to decide whether Robert Sánchez or Mike Penders will start against Luton in the Carabao Cup. Asked about Sánchez's mistakes against Fulham, the Spanish coach said their conversations had been normal and focused mainly on the team's overall performance.

A potential Martínez transfer would also add another chapter to the busy relationship between Chelsea and Aston Villa during this transfer window.

The Blues have already signed Morgan Rogers from Villa for a British-record £117 million. In the opposite direction, Alejandro Garnacho joined the Midlands club on loan, while negotiations continue over a potential move for Nicolas Jackson.

Any further deal between the two clubs must also be carefully assessed because of Premier League and UEFA regulations governing transfers between clubs within a short period.

For now, Emiliano Martínez has emerged as a serious option under consideration at Chelsea. The World Cup winner could be presented with another opportunity to change clubs, while the Blues could use his experience to immediately address their concerns in goal.
