Everton 0-2 Nottingham Forest: Wood and Gibbs-White send visitors second
Nottingham Forest earned a first win at Goodison Park since 1999 to beat Everton and continue their sensational start to the season.
Nottingham Forest moved into second place in the Premier League after beating Everton 2-0 at Goodison Park.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team have now reeled off five consecutive top-flight victories – it is the first time Forest have won as many Premier League games in a row since 1995.
Chris Wood put them ahead in the 15th minute after combining well with Anthony Elanga before lofting the ball over Jordan Pickford for his 11th league goal of the season.
Morgan Gibbs-White doubled Forest’s tally just after the hour, with Wood turning provider, and only a fine double-save from Pickford denied the visitors a third late on.
Forest’s win moves them, at least temporarily, above Arsenal and Chelsea, while Everton sit 16th.
Data Debrief: European Reds march on
After eclipsing their entire points total from last season with their win over Tottenham last time out, Forest continue to be the Premier League’s surprise package this campaign.
And they did so at a ground they have struggled at in recent years, with Nuno masterminding Forest's first win at Goodison Park since January 1999, while also ending a run of four games without a win against the Toffees in the top-flight.
The visitors were sent on their way by Wood early on, with the New Zealander scoring his 22nd top-flight goal under his head coach, the joint-most by any Forest player under a manager, along with Stan Collymore for Frank Clark (22 in 37 games).
Forest have now won each of their last five Premier League matches, their longest winning run in the competition since a run of five between March and April 1995, and they will be hopeful of continuing their sensational form into the new year.
