Liverpool in Crisis: Defeat to Forest Deepens Their Premier League Collapse
Liverpool crashed once again in the Premier League, adding another defeat that worsens their current state. This time, the blow was delivered by a solid and clinical Nottingham Forest, who won 0-3 at Anfield and temporarily escaped the relegation zone. For Arne Slot’s side, the result paints an alarming picture: six losses in twelve league matches, two more than in the entire previous season, when the ‘Reds’ ended up lifting the title.
With this new stumble, Liverpool now sits eight points behind leaders Arsenal, who still have a game in hand. What began as a promising season with five consecutive victories has turned into a spiral of doubts, lack of sharpness and a team unable to respond either in performance or results.
A clinical Forest against an unrecognizable Liverpool
Nottingham Forest built their victory with structure, pressure and ruthless finishing. The opener came through Murillo, who capitalized on a loose ball after a corner to beat his compatriot Alisson, making his return to the goal after eight matches out with injury.
Just seconds into the second half, Neco Williams produced the best individual move of the match and assisted Nicolo Savona, who only had to tap it in for 0-2 with just 39 seconds gone after the restart.
The final blow came from Morgan Gibbs-White, who pounced on a rebound after an Alisson save to seal the rout ten minutes from time. Meanwhile, VAR disallowed a Forest goal for a handball by Igor Jesus, but the visitors’ dominance was never really in doubt.
Liverpool out of ideas and out of answers
Despite having most of the possession, Liverpool never found clarity. The biggest chance came early, when Elliot Anderson cleared Alexis Mac Allister’s shot off the line. The rest was a festival of inaccuracies: Mohamed Salah tried from every angle but couldn’t find the target; Isak, Gakpo and the midfield failed to generate any real danger against Matz Sels, who was practically a spectator.
The substitutions didn’t help either. Slot sent on Hugo Ekitike, Federico Chiesa and youngster Rio Ngumoha, but none were able to change a match that was long decided.
Forest, organized and solid, took advantage of every space to counterattack and secure three vital points in their fight for survival.
Liverpool, meanwhile, sinks further down the table: eleventh place, no playing identity and more questions than answers despite investing over 500 million in transfers this summer.
A dark night at Anfield that makes it clear Slot’s side is enduring its worst moment of the season.
