Liverpool Unveil Memorial for Diogo Jota and André Silva Outside Anfield
The English club revealed the first images of a permanent tribute dedicated to Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva, which will be installed outside Anfield.
Liverpool have unveiled the first images of a permanent memorial dedicated to Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva following the tragic deaths of both men last year. The tribute will be located on 97 Avenue outside Anfield and is intended to become an enduring symbol of the Portuguese forward’s legacy at the club and the close bond he shared with his brother.
The club officially presented the design of the memorial, titled Forever 20, which will be installed near the Main Stand at Anfield. Liverpool selected 97 Avenue because it became the emotional gathering point for supporters during the mourning period, when thousands of fans left flowers, scarves, banners and messages after the fatal car accident in Spain.
The centerpiece of the memorial is a flowing heart-shaped sculpture inspired by Diogo Jota’s iconic goal celebration, one of the striker’s most recognizable trademarks during his five years at Anfield. The design will also reveal the numbers 20 and 30 when viewed from different angles, representing the shirt numbers worn by Jota and André Silva throughout their football careers.
One of the most emotional elements of the project is the incorporation of real items left behind by supporters during the grieving process. Liverpool confirmed that many of these tributes were recycled and integrated into the stone base of the memorial, ensuring that the love and emotions of the fans remain permanently embedded within the monument.
The structure will also feature a laser-engraved dedication to both brothers, along with several personal details reflecting Jota’s life away from football. Among them is a subtle gaming controller reference, honoring the Portuguese star’s well-known passion for video games and esports. Music will also play an important role in the memorial. Lyrics from Jota’s famous Liverpool chant will be engraved into the structure, commemorating the song that supporters still sing during the 20th minute of every match at Anfield.
Although an official unveiling date has not yet been announced, Liverpool hope the memorial will become a place of reflection and remembrance for fans from around the world who wish to honor the “boy from Portugal” who left an unforgettable mark on both the club and the city.
