Mohamed Salah is "far away" from signing a new deal at Liverpool despite spearheading their charge towards a second Premier League title.

The forward, 32, is out of contract at the end of this season and can negotiate a move to a non-English club from January 1.

Salah scored his 20th goal of a stellar season as the Reds thrashed West Ham 5-0 on Sunday, but revealed afterwards that he is not close to penning new terms with the club.

He told Sky Sports: "We are far away from that.

"The only thing on my mind is I want Liverpool to win the league and I want to be part of that.

"I will do my best for the team to win the trophy. There are a few other teams catching up with us and we need to stay focused and humble and go again."

Sunday's win was the eighth occasion during which Salah has both scored and assisted in a Premier League match, already the most any player has done so in one campaign.

He has registered 30 goal involvements – 17 goals and 13 assists – and is on track to match Harry Kane by scoring 20+ goals in nine Premier League campaigns.

Trent Alexander-Arnold, who scored against West Ham, and Virgil van Dijk are also out of contract this summer, with reports from Spain this weekend claiming Real Madrid are very confident of convincing the former to leave his boyhood club for LaLiga.

But Liverpool boss Arne Slot insists he is not concerned that three star players may depart the club before next season.

He said: "I have control to a certain extent over them, from what I expect from them on the pitch, and I'm really pleased to see what Virgil brings, what Trent brings and what Mo brings.

"On their private lives, I don't have control over them."

Liverpool sit eight points clear of Nottingham Forest at the top of the Premier League table with Arsenal and Chelsea still to play this week and are next in action against Manchester United on Sunday.
