Ball Boy Takes MVP Honors After Key Assist in Porto's Victory Over Braga
The young ball boy from Porto was crucial in the goal that ultimately secured victory for his team against Braga, and former Barcelona player Nico González decided to acknowledge his contribution.
The Spanish midfielder of Porto, Nico González (son of the legendary Fran from Deportivo), who was trained in the FC Barcelona academy, was the star of last night's match, where they won 2-1 against Braga. He was named 'MVP' of the game and decided to gift the trophy to the ball boy, who was vital in the winning goal.
In the 59th minute, the ball went out of play on the Braga side in the attacking third. The ball boy quickly handed the ball to a Porto player, and as soon as he received it, Nico González controlled it perfectly after the throw-in and teamed up brilliantly with Brazilian forward Pepê, who scored the decisive goal, making it 2-1.
Both Porto's coach, Vítor Bruno, and the goalscorer himself praised and thanked the young ball boy—who plays in the club's youth ranks—for his cleverness and quickness in returning the ball that was on the sidelines.
After the match, Nico González, who is also an international with Spain's U21 team, was named the best player of the match by the jury of the Liga Portugal. At that moment, in front of the cameras, he took the trophy, hugged the ball boy, and handed it to him.
The grateful young boy posed with the trophy for all the stadium photographers.
