The newly promoted side were looking for their first victory of the season, but they ran into a Porto team that practically put the game away in the first half. The high press, immediate ball recovery and attacking efficiency of Francesco Farioli’s team ultimately made a huge difference.

Porto’s Press Overwhelms Académico

During the opening minutes, Académico attempted to play out from the back, but the Dragons’ pressure repeatedly forced turnovers in dangerous areas.

The breakthrough arrived in the fifth minute. After winning possession, Pablo Rosario delivered a cross that André Silva only had to turn into the net to open the scoring.

The home side attempted to respond primarily by playing long balls toward André Clóvis, who became their main attacking reference and helped generate several corner kicks.

Bad news arrived for Porto in the 18th minute when Zaidu Sanusi was forced to leave the pitch with an injury.

But just two minutes later, Gabri Veiga made his mark. Following a well-worked team move, the Spaniard found space outside the penalty area and fired home from distance to make it 2-0. It was his third goal of the league campaign after also scoring against Arouca on the previous matchday.

Académico had one of their best opportunities in the 30th minute when Cihan Kahraman sent a dangerous free kick toward the top-right corner. Diogo Costa moved quickly across his goal and made a strong save to prevent the hosts from pulling one back.

William Gomes Completes the Rout

The third goal virtually put the match beyond reach before halftime.

In the 38th minute, another attacking combination from the Dragons ended with William Gomes finishing the move to make it 3-0.

Porto headed into the locker room with a commanding advantage and complete control of the match.

The second half was played at a much slower tempo. With a three-goal cushion, the visitors managed possession and only stepped up the intensity when space became available.

In the 67th minute, Ewerton prevented a fourth goal after a low effort from Borja Sainz, while Académico produced their best attacking moments late in the match.

João Guilherme attempted a spectacular bicycle kick in the 82nd minute but failed to make clean contact. Five minutes later, Alejandro Mestanza came even closer when his effort crashed against the crossbar.

Four Matches and Nobody Has Scored Against Porto

The score remained unchanged as FC Porto completed another commanding victory.

The numbers for Francesco Farioli’s team are nearly perfect: four matches, four victories, nine goals scored and none conceded. The win also allowed the Dragons to reclaim sole possession of first place after Sporting CP had temporarily moved to the top with their victory on Friday.

Beyond the results, the impression this Porto side is leaving may be even more significant. They press effectively, recover possession quickly, have several players capable of scoring and remain extremely difficult to break down defensively.

Académico de Viseu, meanwhile, will continue searching for their first victory since returning to the top flight.

Four matchdays into the season, the champions remain perfect. And, so far, nobody has found a way to score against them.
