Porto Breaks Down Arouca and Takes All Three Points at Do Dragão

Porto had to be patient, but eventually found the reward. The Dragons defeated Arouca 2-0 at the Estádio do Dragão after dominating most of the match, overcoming a stubborn visiting defense and even seeing a goal disallowed before finally breaking through.

From the opening minutes, Porto took control of possession and pushed Arouca deep into its own half. William Gomes and Pepê were among the first to threaten, although the visitors remained organized and prevented the hosts from creating clear opportunities.

Twenty minutes in, the score remained 0-0. Porto had the ball and the initiative, while Arouca seemed comfortable waiting for an opportunity to counterattack.

Porto Dominates but Arouca Holds Firm

In the 29th minute, Gabri Veiga tested Ignacio de Arruabarrena, who pushed the ball behind for a corner. From the ensuing set piece, Porto appealed for a handball and the referee went to the VAR monitor, but ultimately decided not to award a penalty.

The pressure continued.

Four minutes later, an Arouca mistake presented William Gomes with a huge opportunity, but Arruabarrena once again came to the visitors' rescue.

Arouca did not register its first real attempt until the 42nd minute, when Iván Barbero got between two defenders and connected with a header that Diogo Costa comfortably collected.

Before halftime, Veiga delivered an excellent cross for Victor Froholdt, but Arruabarrena was there again.

Porto went into the break having completely controlled the match, but without the goal its performance deserved.

Porto Finally Breaks Through

Nothing changed after the restart.

Pepê fired over the crossbar in the 49th minute before Alberto Costa appeared to put Porto ahead three minutes later. However, the goal was ruled out for a foul on the goalkeeper inside the six-yard box.

Then came another warning.

In the 56th minute, Pepê connected with a brilliant header from a Gomes cross, only to see the ball crash against the crossbar and bounce away.

Two minutes later, Jakub Kiwior finally appeared to have broken the deadlock with a powerful volley that Arruabarrena could not keep out. Once again, however, VAR intervened. An offside position by Silva in the buildup resulted in the goal being disallowed.

Porto had done almost everything except score.

That finally changed in the 66th minute.

Gomes broke forward at speed before finding Gabri Veiga, who controlled the ball and fired past Arruabarrena. After so much pressure, the Dragons finally had their deserved lead.

Borja Sanz Seals the Victory

Arouca now had to take more risks, while Porto suddenly found more space to attack.

In the 84th minute, Borja Sanz found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but Arruabarrena rushed off his line to deny him.

One minute later, there was no stopping him.

Pepê delivered the ball into the area and Borja finished first time to score Porto's second and put the match beyond Arouca.

The visitors had one final opportunity in stoppage time, but the effort went well wide.

There was no time for anything else.

Porto won 2-0 at the Estádio do Dragão, collected another three points and, perhaps just as importantly, finished another match without conceding.

Arouca resisted for more than an hour, but the Dragons' pressure eventually became too much.
