Porto Recovers Three Key Players Ahead of Marítimo Clash
Porto received encouraging news ahead of its return to Liga Portugal action. Santiago Giménez returned to training following his international commitments with Mexico, while Gabri Veiga, Seko Fofana, and Martim Fernandes received medical clearance and will be available for Saturday's match
Francesco Farioli will have more options available as Porto prepares to return to competitive action following the international break.
The Portuguese club held its final training session on Friday before traveling to Madeira, where it will face Marítimo in the eighth round of Liga Portugal.
One of the biggest developments was the return of Santiago Giménez, who rejoined his teammates after representing Mexico during the international break.
The Mexican striker was the last of the club's international players to return, but his presence is welcome news for Farioli, who will be able to count on him for the upcoming match.
According to Portuguese newspaper A Bola, Giménez is part of the 25-man squad traveling to Madeira.
However, his place in the starting lineup has yet to be confirmed, particularly given the limited time he has had to train with the rest of the squad.
Gabri Veiga, Fofana, and Martim Fernandes Receive Medical Clearance
The good news for Porto did not end with the Mexican striker's return.
The club also welcomed back Gabri Veiga, Seko Fofana, and Martim Fernandes, three players who had been training separately due to different physical problems.
According to A Bola, all three have completed their recovery and received medical clearance to return to competitive action.
Veiga's return is particularly important for the midfield, while Fofana is available again after missing the clash against Benfica.
Meanwhile, Martim Fernandes provides another defensive option at a time when the demanding schedule is beginning to require greater squad rotation.
All three players were included in the squad for the match against Marítimo, along with defender Chris Smalling, one of the team's recent signings.
Porto Still Has Several Players Recovering From Injury
Although Farioli has recovered several important players, Porto is still dealing with some absences.
Zaidu has made progress in his recovery and has begun participating in modified team training sessions, a positive development after several weeks on the sidelines.
João Costa and Nehuén Pérez are also working partially with the group, but neither has received medical clearance to return to competitive action.
All three were left out of the squad traveling to Madeira, while Vasco Sousa continues to follow a modified training program.
Porto, the reigning Portuguese champion, will visit Marítimo on Saturday, October 10, at 6:00 p.m. local time at the Estádio dos Barreiros.
With Santiago Giménez back and three players receiving medical clearance, Farioli will have more options to approach the match and maintain the Dragons' competitive momentum.
