Botafogo Parts Ways with the Coach Who Led them to Libertadores and Brasileirão Titles
Botafogo, current champions of the Copa Libertadores and Campeonato Brasileiro, announced that Artur Jorge, their Portuguese head coach, has terminated his contract with the Rio de Janeiro club. The news comes at a time of great success for the team, marking one of the best periods in their recent history.
The club released a brief statement, confirming that the decision was made mutually:
- "Botafogo and Artur Jorge have mutually agreed to the termination of his work contract, including that of his coaching staff," the club stated.
- They expressed their gratitude to the coach for the achievements of the past season, particularly highlighting the Copa Libertadores and Brasileirão titles.
The Portuguese coach has accepted a lucrative offer to join the Qatari club Al-Rayyan, who confirmed his signing on social media this Saturday. Jorge's departure had been rumored since the end of last year, when it was reported that he had reached a preliminary agreement with the Arab club.
Historic achievements
Artur Jorge was hired by Botafogo in April 2024, and in a short time, he accomplished historic feats for the club:
- Copa Libertadores: The first in the club’s history.
- Campeonato Brasileiro: Botafogo had not won this title since 1995.
In total, he managed 55 matches, with a record of 31 wins, 15 draws, and 9 losses.
