Duván Zapata Suffers Serious Knee Injury
Torino has confirmed that Colombian Duván Zapata, the team's captain, suffered a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee during the match against Inter Milan in this Serie A round, potentially ending his season.
"Tests conducted on Duván Zapata revealed an injury to the anterior cruciate ligament, the medial meniscus, and the lateral meniscus. Torino embraces Duván affectionately, hoping to see him back on the pitch as soon as possible," announced Torino.
This type of injury requires a lengthy recovery process following surgery, approximately 8 months, meaning the forward's season is almost certainly over.
Zapata left the field in the 84th minute after twisting his left knee awkwardly while trying to dribble past Matteo Darmian, Inter's defender. Medical assistance attended to the Colombian, who was left on the ground in tears, already aware at that moment of the severity of an injury that is increasingly common in football.
Inter's captain, Argentine Lautaro Martínez, crossed the field to check on the condition of his professional colleague.
Earlier, in the 36th minute, Zapata scored a brilliant goal to make it 2-1, closing the gap with Inter. Firm in the starting forward line of 'Toro', enjoying what seemed like a third youth, he battled with Acerbi in the air, made a perfect run in front of Italian Matteo Darmian, and beat Swiss Yann Sommer with the inside of his right boot, placing the ball in the top corner.
Torino loses their offensive reference and one of their leaders. He scored 12 goals last season and had already netted 3 this season.
