Kvaratskhelia says goodbye to Napoli at Maradona’s mural, heading to Paris?
The Georgian Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is about to leave Napoli to join PSG, where he’ll meet up with Spanish coach Luis Enrique. The star winger of Napoli, who requested his move during the winter transfer window, will head to Paris to seal his transfer to the Parisian club.
An emotional farewell
In the last few days, Kvaratskhelia took a stroll around Naples and visited the iconic Diego Maradona mural in the Quartieri Spagnoli, a spot that represents the fans’ love for the Argentine legend. Even though the farewell happened a few days ago, a recently shared video shows him at the mural in the early hours, around 2 AM, to avoid the crowds.
For Antonio Conte, Napoli’s coach, and the club’s fans, Kvaratskhelia’s departure comes as a bitter surprise since he’s the team’s standout player. “He’s a fantastic guy. I’m disappointed because I thought I could convince him to stay,” Conte said after the match against Hellas Verona.
What’s next for Kvaratskhelia?
According to local sources, PSG will pay around $81 million for Kvaratskhelia’s transfer, including bonuses. This amount reflects the value of the Georgian winger, who leaves behind two unforgettable seasons with Napoli, a club with which he won the Scudetto in his first year.
With his departure, Kvaratskhelia joins a list of key players who left Napoli after the championship win, including Piotr Zielinski (now at Inter Milan), Kim Min-Jae (now at Bayern Munich), and Victor Osimhen (loaned to Galatasaray). Kvara’s departure marks a new chapter for the Italian club, which still leads the football scene in its country.
