Henrikh Mkhitaryan revealed retirement could be on the cards at the end of the 2026-27 season.

The 37-year-old recently signed a one-year contract extension with Inter after his previous deal expired at the end of June.

The midfielder has made 187 appearances for Inter across the last four seasons and has won two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italia trophies and two Supercoppas Italiana.

He has also finished as runner-up in the Champions League twice during his time in Milan, losing in the 2022-23 and 2024-25 finals.

Mkhitaryan, who has scored 12 goals and provided 17 assists for Inter, said he was not guaranteed any game time with his new deal, but feels strong enough to play at least one more season.

"I didn't receive any guarantee; it wouldn't even have been right, because I have to show on the pitch whether I deserve a place in the team or not," Mkhitaryan told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"But I feel I can still play at a good level for another year, and so, together with the club, I decided to stay one more season. Then we'll see.

"I don't know [about retirement]. It's impossible to decide today. I'll have to see how I feel at the end of this season.

"At my age, there's no point making long-term plans."

Inter won a domestic double last season after their Serie A and Coppa Italia triumphs under Cristian Chivu.

Mkhitaryan is determined to push for more silverware in 2026-27, targeting all four trophies on offer for Inter.

"We've never held back," added the former Manchester United, Arsenal and Roma midfielder.

"We’ll try to play at our best on four fronts; I include the Supercoppa as well as the Champions League.

"You can't know what the future holds; there are years when you win and years when you lose. The important thing is to be ready for every challenge, and we are. Always."
